Text a KEYWORD to a SHORTCODE
New clients frequently have questions about keywords and shortcodes. They want to get information to their customers as quickly as possible without a lot of complication. A keyword enables customers to simply text to get information or a mobile coupon, to vote on an issue or to sign up for daily/weekly/monthly specials and updates. It is the "MESSAGE" portion of the mobile interaction. A shortcode on Mobile is like a URL for the web. It is the "TO" portion of the mobile interaction.
Keyword
Mobile Keywords are usually one or two words that are linked to a mobile marketing campaign. It could be used to request product or service information (information on demand), to help advertise a special offer or promotion (promo codes or mobile coupons), to solicit feedback or opinions (voting & polling campaigns) or facilitate simple interaction (mobile Q&A or mobile comments).
The customer simply sends a text message with the Mobile Keyword to the 5 or 6 digit short code to participate (sign-up, join, get info, etc). EXAMPLE Text MMC to 555444 to get information on special offers. The customer immediately receives an automated response. All of these messages and campaigns get updated using the Mobile Marketing Center. They can be created and changed in less than a minute. Short Code: 555444
The Short Code is a unique number used by companies to promote mobile marketing campaigns. It's likened to a URL for the web on your cell phone. A short code is typically 5 to 6 digits long and is leased like a domain name.
Unlike a standard phone number (10-digit phone number), you can only use a short code for SMS and MMS. They are the means for commercial text campaigns in the US and Canada, International long-codes can be used on a limited basis, country by country. When a user sends in a text message, the shortcode tells the wireless carrier where to route that campaign. For the purposes of the Mobile Marketing Center, the standard shortcode used is 555444. The language used to promote your keyword would be TEXT [KEYWORD] to 555444.
